Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel (OCIT-1)

The Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel (OCIT) broke ground on November 6, 2015. This is the largest project under the Akron Waterways Renewed! program. The tunnel will be 27 feet in diameter, span a distance of 6,240 feet, and will be able to hold 25 million gallons of storm water and sewage. 

In August the contractor will continue working on completing the TDS Overflow Slab, begin constructing the TDS interior walls, resume backfilling over the LCI Connector pipe and around the LCI structures. During this activity the Contractor will relocate the access ramp for the TDS to allow construction of the LCI Junction Chamber and the Overflow Culvert.

Installation of the generator and other large equipment inside the Control Building, then install trusses.

Continue backfilling at the North Wall of the TDS in preparation for the construction of the TDS Overflow Transition and the Access Drive retaining walls and continue demobilizing miscellaneous tunneling equipment from the OCIT-1 lay-down yard.

Little Cuyahoga Interceptor (LCI) Connection Structures

The Contractor is installing the Temporary Earth Retaining System (TERS) and started excavating for the Little Cuyahoga Interceptor (LCI) connection structures (Meter Vault, Valve Vault, Junction Chamber and Drop Chamber).

OCIT-1 Consolidation Sewer

Continued excavation for installation of 72” Hobas piping from the retrieval pit on the north side of the railroad to MH #11, begin installing MH #5 and resume installation of the Rack 20 Sewer, along with associated MH #8 and MH # 9.
