New Updates INFORMATION UPDATE ON OCIT Rack 37 Kenny / Obayashi JV, HM Miller Construction Co. and the City of Akron, has closed S. Main St. between Church St. and University Ave. as of Monday, March 26. This is ongoing work for the OCIT Rack 37 Diversion Structure Relocation in Lock 3. The closure is needed to construct a 30’ deep work shaft that will eventually connect to the structures already completed in Lock 3 over the last 3 months. While this deep excavation is being performed, the subcontractor will concurrently be auger boring a 54” steel casing pipe (to carry a 36” sewer pipe) from Lock 3 to the shaft/structure in Main Street. Additionally, the existing brick sewer in Main Street will have its flow reversed into this newly constructed diversion structure and allow for the separation of storm and sanitary sewage from the existing system. All work has been staged and scheduled to minimize disruption to the local businesses, traveling public and the City of Akron upcoming summer events. On street parking for S. Main St. will be maintained during this project and access to the area will be from the south end at University Ave. During this closure, southbound traffic will be detoured using W. Bowery St., S. High St. and University Ave. Northbound traffic will be detoured using University Ave., Broadway, and W. Bowery St. Church Street will be closed at S. Main St., but access will be maintained from S. High St. to Summit County Parking Deck and to Maiden Lane. On street parking for S. Main St. will be maintained during this project and access to this area will be from the south end at University Ave.
